Scranton, PA
Farm Equipment Transport

Farm equipment generally moves without an oversize permit in Pennsylvania when the loaded vehicle remains within 8 feet 6 inches wide, 13 feet 6 inches high, 53 feet in trailer length, and 80,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. Bridge capacity, axle limits, and route restrictions must also be checked before moving machinery through Scranton.

Oversized farm equipment moving through Scranton may require a PennDOT hauling permit before transport. The application must provide the loaded dimensions, axle configuration, gross weight, equipment details, and proposed route. Additional permits or approvals may be required for Scranton streets, Lackawanna County roads, or other locally maintained routes.

Farm machinery moving through Scranton may require certified escort vehicles when its loaded dimensions or PennDOT permit conditions trigger escort requirements. Mountain grades, narrow roads, bridge restrictions, and limited sight distance may affect whether front, rear, or multiple escorts are needed. Taller loads may also require a height-pole vehicle.

Oversized agricultural machinery moving through Scranton must operate within the travel periods authorized by the Pennsylvania permit. Nighttime travel, holidays, poor weather, limited visibility, mountain routes, and heavy traffic may result in additional restrictions. Larger loads may be limited to daylight movement or require special scheduling.

Farm equipment moving through Scranton must be secured with properly rated chains, binders, straps, and blocking before entering mountain or rural routes. Brakes, tires, attachments, and movable components should be checked before dispatch. Oversized loads may require Pennsylvania-compliant warning signs, flags, lighting, escorts, or height-clearance equipment.

Farm equipment routing near Scranton should account for mountain grades, curves, bridge restrictions, low clearances, and narrow rural roads. The final approach to the property should be reviewed for shoulder stability, turning space, overhead utilities, and whether the trailer can safely enter and exit the site.
