Arlington Heights, IL
Farm Equipment Transport

Farm equipment generally moves without an oversize permit in Illinois when the loaded vehicle remains within 8 feet 6 inches wide, 13 feet 6 inches high, 53 feet in trailer length, and 80,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. Axle-weight rules, bridge limits, and local restrictions may affect the move, and over-legal loads require permit review.

Farm equipment exceeding Illinois legal size or weight limits requires an oversize or overweight permit for travel on state-maintained highways near Arlington Heights. Permit approval depends on the loaded dimensions, axle weights, gross weight, route, and current roadway restrictions. Separate municipal or county permits may be needed for locally maintained roads.

Oversized agricultural equipment transported through Arlington Heights may require civilian escort vehicles based on Illinois regulations and the issued permit. Load dimensions, roadway configuration, visibility, and suburban traffic conditions influence escort placement. Separate escort or traffic-control requirements may apply on municipal and county roads.

Farm equipment moving through Arlington Heights must follow the travel hours stated on the Illinois permit. Larger loads may be restricted during Chicago-area rush hours, nighttime travel, holidays, severe weather, or reduced visibility. Municipal and county permits may add separate travel windows for locally maintained roads.

Agricultural machinery moving from Arlington Heights requires securement equipment rated for the load and a trailer that can safely handle the machine’s dimensions and weight. Loose parts and attachments should be lowered, removed, or restrained before transport. Illinois permit conditions may require flags, signs, lighting, escort vehicles, and additional warning equipment.

Routes from Arlington Heights should be planned around suburban congestion, tollways, restricted truck routes, bridge clearances, and limited commercial loading areas. The carrier should have a clear path from the pickup site to IL-53, I-90, or another suitable freight corridor without relying on narrow residential streets.
